Well we're here. Arrived yesterday and after checking the baggage allowance when we were in Bangkok we realised our weight limit exceeded the airlines maximum weight from Sydney to Canberra. So instead of trying to wear 8 kilos worth of clothes each we changed the hire car to be picked up from Sydney and drove to Canberra. Which was better actually as we got here quicker (there was a 4 hour wait at Sydney)
And we could see a bit of the country.
Win win.
The flight here was very long (funny that!) Extremely hot and very boring oh and did I mention long?
2 out of the 4 hand luggage were also over the weight limit for Thai airways but with a bit of fluttering (by Sean I have to say) the guy at the desk let us off!
Sean and I got search and I have to say I'm not sure who was more embarrassed me or the security guard... I'm sure he said strip, when actually he just asked for my belt, shoes and watch to be removed.
I then got asked the same in Bangkok I think someone tipped them off to a dodgy English family travelling across?!
Oh and in Sydney my passport wouldn't scan so I had to be escorted to the side looked in the eye and "processed" separately.
They were filming boarder patrol at Sydney so I was expecting to be asked to step to the side for them but I didn't. (Good job really my hair had exploded like Monica does in friends - non Friends watching people Google it)
When asked if we were carrying anything dangerous over instead of admitting to the knife Sean had or the screwdrivers Ob admitted to having an apple corer!
Don't think the passport official knew what to think of that so laughed.
Yesterday we sorted out sims (the important thing) grabbed tea and generally sat thinking omg we're actually here.
Today woke up to a very nice shiny hot thing in the sky which I have to say was a very welcomed sight. I'd send you pictures but you don't want see it do you?!! He he he.
We've looked for cars today. Or rather Sean has been looking for cars I just stand there looking pretty.
One garage dude even said he'd give us a car next week for free to drive around in until we find one to buy. Very nice of him and can only imagine he had some Flintstone type car out the back that he wanted to make us drive and look stupid?!
Ikea have said we can hang on to the hire car longer if needed they've also very kindly said if we haven't sorted things by next Monday Sean can delay starting for a few more days (bare in mind he's been getting paid since the 5th Jan and not actually done any work for them yet!!!)
We get to hear tomorrow if the school we like has a place for Ob. There's definitely a place for Charlotte but not yet for Ob unless someone in his year has (hopefully) moved out of the area over Christmas. Really hope they have. If not we have a plan B.
I'm going to home school them....
NOT.
Christ can you imagine that!
Have to say the shoe fashion over here is not great (so its a good job i have my 101 pairs on my way to me) but I have seen an amazing Marc Jacobs handbag. The only trouble is its $450. Which is erm a little more than I pay for handbags.
I'd let you know what it is in pounds but I'm going to let you work that out yourself!
The container with all our wordly goods is set to get here around the end of Feb so not too long to wait. Just got to find a house before then.
The kids have been in the pool today (did I mention about the bright hot thing in the sky... 26 degrees it made today)
So only fair they got to cool off.
I've just also been having fun working out a top loader washing machine. Which has more flashing lights than a fruit machine.
It sounds like a jumbo jet. Thank goodness for laundry rooms
