Snakes in the garden

Just coming up to midday here, I'm on the decking, cuppa to hand and the sun is shining. I just had to chase a bit of ham that flew off my rice cake which was slightly annoying. Makes for a good party game though... catch the flying slice of ham. It was honey roast ham if any ones interested?

I'm nervously looking down to the grass as its a little long and we have no mower. (It would have never passed customs) I'm reluctant to buy one as the garden was in an rubbish state when we moved in and I think the landlord should have made it nicer. We have astro turf out the front .... very realistic looking NOT. But doesn't die and doesn't need mowing (funny that) anyway.... I digress .... Sean annoyingly before he left for a 3 day meeting at Murrumbatemen (coincidentally that's where a lot of wineries are, where I went for my wine tasting, he assures me its work and no play, he also said there was no phone reception.... I think he's off on a jolly!!) stated "we need to think about that grass Mad, snakes like grass"
"WHAT" I shriek jumping on to nearest chair, "Why would they, we're not near anything, why would they come to my garden"
"Because that's what they do Mad looking for food" He says
"Well I haven't got any food for them so there's no point in them coming, and anyway they wouldn't slither all past everyone else's house to get to mine" I shriek a little quieter
I get the Howeller look, which is mainly despair, puzzled and are you for real.
Then I state "Besides which we've had the garden and house sprayed, so there"
Slight pause..... "yes for spiders Mad not snakes"
me "hmm, well that's kinda the same isn't it, both scary and annoying"
Sean (after a much longer pause, probably thanking his lucky stars he's off to a winery place for 3 days) "Yes Mad"

So now I'm not only looking for scaries inside but now blumming snakes in my garden. If I see one do I wrestle it? Do I get my flute out and wicker basket? (note to self buy wicker basket) Do I stare it out? Do I need to carry a whip like Indianan Jones and whip it away? (Now I'm liking that idea, would have to get a hat as well)
Please discuss and answer immediately.
Also friends of ours came round the other weekend and gave us great tales of both fathers putting snakes in their roofs to catch the rats.
Oh marvellous. When I asked "they wouldn't come out this far would they" I was just told 'I don't think they're limited to just certain areas"
We'll see about that. Sigh

I'm not actually that bothered by snakes but I'm told I should be, I really have enough to worry about with the scaries to worry about snakes.
Sean saw his first scary last week, he was putting stuff in the UTE to go to the homeless shelter (Not for his purpose Ikea are donating time and furniture there) anyway he said it was literally an inch from his hand and it was the size of a donkey (he may have actually said 10 pence but its opposite land isn't it so he meant donkey) and NO he didn't take a picture thank goodness. It was a red back for those that are interested.
Also that week he found a dead mouse at work and a moth that was as big as his shoe (and I'm not kidding) if I can find the picture I'll send it on.
So I'm still spared seeing scaries, which I'm over the moon about.

We had dinner at a friends house on Monday with a Japanese colleague of Sean's and we were talking about deadly animals in Japan (they have none, just humans) at the very moment our friend who was hosting was having great delight telling us about a deadly bird that will slice you in 2 (Only in Queensland, I forget it's name but I'll try and find out) It apparently walks the streets in daylight and BAM gets you.(it has an incredibly sharp beak and walks at waist height)  At this moment their dog decides to nudge me from under the table causing me to shriek and jump a million miles shouting AGHHHH very loudly.
It could not have been planned any better. I expect you heard the laughs?

I went to spin class today and it was a different lady from the devil, she actually participated so has my full admiration, she was talking about cocktail dresses (I think) it's hard to hear....
Anyway this time I was prepared, I wore my padded cycling 3/4 lenght thingys and armed and ready at the back of the class near the fan (only to realise I wasn't getting any effect of the fan as I was too far under it, another lesson learnt for spin)
So we're in ride easy gears 6-8 and then it was pretty much lost on me again. Seriously why can I not hear what she's saying and why won't my legs go as fast as everyone else's?

The only plus thing was I was angled well enough to look at some one else panel and see what gear they were in, I was always in a much higher gear to her which probably explains why my legs don't go as fast.
The opening track was "Like a bridge over troubled waters" I was indeed in troubled waters, and the fact that I wore my padded cycling thingys (are they leggings? shorts? they're below knee so not really shorts. Hmm discuss please and let me know) was pretty much pointless as we did the majority of the class STANDING UP. Come on, really. I thought at one point I had it sussed when I spotted commands on the mirror... quickly realised that it was for another class, I'm not sure squats on a bike is possible? I may be wrong but cycling and squats surely do not go. They certainly didn't in this class thank god.
Cocktail dress lady kept shouting in my direction "back off, back off, BACK OFF" which I'm not sure means or even what I was supposed to be doing or not doing. I'd like to think she was talking to some one behind me but like I've said I was at the back, gazing lovingly at the fan wishing it would alter itself to cool me down. The freezing cold scented flannel is always very welcome but it's hard to cycle and mop ones brow.
It's always a relief to see the clock edging towards that 45 minute mark, but oddly now am looking forward to when I can go again.

I missed out on my treat afterwards of an strong mint (aka Crown mint) as there were too many ladies by the pot on the way out. I will take 2 next time to make up for it.

Right people, am sure you have things to be doing and those that have little people they probably need sorting out.
I'm going to chill here a bit longer and enjoy the peace and quiet.
